On the 9th of May, we're joining forces with the Amsterdam Indie Game Developers</a> for a full afternoon and evening at A Lab</a>.

One big room. Two communities.
Games, art, code, and the people who make them.

We’ll be filling the space with exhibition and play-test booths. Indie games in the making you can play, creative projects to interact with, and the makers right there to talk to. It's going to be informal and a bit chaotic in the best possible way. Come for the work, stay for the people.

Towards the evening we'll gather for a round of short talks and showcases from both communities before we wind things down.

Introduction to Procedural Music

Hello again creative coders and enthusiasts!
Last time we had a great workshop on image manipulation with p5.js by Adam Driggers (aka @driggs). Thank you to everyone who joined us!
This month we’re happy to welcome Max de Kroon</a> to the stage at A Lab for an introduction to procedural music.
Come join us Sunday, April 26th at 13:00h, at our usual spot at A-Lab</a> .
From Mozart to modular synthesizers, we’ll explore the development of generative music - examining the tools and technologies that allowed this art form to emerge. The goal is to show how seemingly complex compositions are constructed from simple systems of sounds.
Since this is an introductory talk, no prior knowledge of music (or audio) is required. On the contrary, we’ll go over most of the foundational concepts that are true to all genres of music. In the end, we’ll look at one example of a procedural music system made in p5.js</a>
As usual, the second part of the event is dedicated to show & tell. Anyone who wants to show their work on the big screen is more than welcome to do so.

This month we're very happy to welcome Adam Driggers</a> (aka @driggs) to the stage at A Lab for a beginner-friendly hands-on workshop on image manipulation with p5.js!

Adam will guide you through the surprisingly fun world of working with images in code. Starting from the basics of loading and displaying images, you'll work your way up to pixel-level manipulation and cutting images apart in unexpected ways. Expect to walk away with new tricks up your sleeve and a fresh perspective on what you can do with a photo and a few lines of p5.
Bring your laptop — this is a hands-on session! No deep experience required, just curiosity and willingness to experiment.
After the workshop, there's time and space for some co-working. A great moment to keep hacking on what you've just learned, continue an existing project, or simply hang out with fellow creative coders.
As always, we'll wrap up with show & tell, where everyone is welcome to put their work on the big screen and share what they've been making, learning, or breaking.

Reverse Engineering a Procedural Art Piece

Hello again creatives, coders and enthusiasts!
Last time we had a blast, thanks to Piter Pasma</a> and everyone else who shared their Genuary experiments!
This month we're following up on the beginner workshop from November. Together with Stanko</a>, we'll try to reverse-engineer and rebuild a procedural art piece</a>.
Come join us on Sunday, February 22th at 13:00h, at our usual spot at A-Lab</a>.
Instead of diving into code, we'll explore the ideas behind it - slowly unpacking the patterns, structures and algorithms that make the visuals work. The goal is to show how complex generative art can emerge out of surprisingly simple concepts.
Expect a tour through all kinds of nerdy goodness: Voronoi diagrams, Perlin noise, vector fields, randomness, Chaikin curves, Poisson disk sampling, easings... with interactive examples! No deep math or heavy coding required, just curiosity and a love for creative coding and art!
As usual, the second part of the event is dedicated to show & tell. Anyone who wants to show their work on the big screen is more than welcome to do so.

Genuary Special @A-Lab with Piter Pasma

Hello again curious coders and creatives!
We hope you were able to wrap up last year beautifully and are as excited about the fresh start of the year as we are!
One of the things that gets us excited around this time of year is that fact that the year starts with our favorite month: GENUARY</a>🎉
We're very honored and excited to announce that for our the occasion we'll be joined by none other than the Godfather of Genuary himself: Piter Pasma!
To celebrate, we are organizing a show and tell meetup!
What is GENUARY? It is a month-long event where people use code to make art. You can think of it as a "sketchbook" challenge for anyone who wants to try making generative art. Each day has a different prompt (like "Order and disorder" or "Bauhaus Poster"). It is all about experimenting, sharing cool visuals, and seeing what happens if you push that one parameter up to eleven. You can choose to do all of the prompts, or just select a few you like.
For 2026, Piter Pasma</a> again collected 31 amazing prompts</a> from his friends</a> over at the #genartclub.
For this joyous occasion, we're organizing a GENUARY Special on Thursday, January 29th and this in our beloved spot at A-Lab</a>.
We're planning a big show & tell evening where everybody is welcomed to showcase their GENUARY (or other) work, talk about their inspiration or share their process. Whether you did all 31 prompts or just a few, we'd love to see it! We'll also have space to pull out your laptop and hack away for a bit if you feel like it. Or just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

As the year comes to an end yet again we want to wrap it up with a relaxed social event.
Just like last year we'll be meeting at the Brouwerij Troost, de Pijp. And this on Wednesday 17th of December.
No table & chair setting, no beamers nor laptops. Just a cosy social hangout.
We've already got a bunch of ideas for our events next year that we're excited to talk about, but we're also very interested in what ideas and plans you all have for the coming year. Be it about creative coding, life, or anything, we'd love to hear it!

Beginner Workshop Creative Coding @A-Lab

Hello again curious creatives!
Have you ever wondered if you could make visual art through a simple set of rules? Well, you're in luck because we're organizing a free workshop to show you exactly how!
On Sunday 23rd of November we meet at A-Lab</a> for a beginner workshop into creative coding guided by Sinan Asciolagu</a>. In his super-duper-crash-p5-workshop he'll take you through the few basic programming concepts to recreate your own version of some of the generative artworks from the pioneers like Vera Molnar, Georg Nees, Herbert Franke.
The workshop is hands on, so do bring your laptop! Throughout the workshop Sinan will also be joined by community members to help people out 1-on-1 when you get stuck.
This will also be an opportunity to join our monthly meetup of our group, Creative Coding Amsterdam. So for the more experienced crowd, we're keeping it interesting by inviting everyone to recode and/or reimagine any existing artwork! This can be based in any medium. Whatever inspires you!
After the workshop we'll have the space for a show and tell, where everyone is welcomed to share their results and lessons for this coding workout. We're already excited!

Well, same friends but a different location as they moved offices last month. We're excited to see where they landed. What we're even more excited about though, is this month's topic: Pen Plotters! A topic near and dear to us. For those unfamiliar with the term, a 'pen plotter' is a device that holds a pen and can do X, Y, pen up & pen down movement. They come in different shapes and sizes and can also hold more than just a pen. People get very creative with them and even build their own contraptions... In our upcoming special we'll give a brief overview of the history of plotters and a selection of artists we love, and share some of our own plotter work. However this is also an invitation to you to share what you've seen or made in the space that got you all excited. Anything goes! To top it all off, there's even more! David and Stanko will be bringing along their AxiDraw's (A3) and we'll be doing some plotting on the spot! One of those reasons that has been keeping us warm and busy in 2025 so far, is Genuary</a>. For those unfamiliar, genuary is 'an artificially generated month of time where we build code that makes beautiful things'. Or 31 prompts, one for each day of January, meant to inspire and tickle your creative coding itch. So that is why, for our next meetup we'll have 'Genuary' as the theme, while as format we're mixing things up a little bit again. This time we're having a mix of a social event and a group-work session. There will be space for laptops, so you can get some work done (right in time before Genuary ends :) or show off your creations or something you've seen online... The API is inspired by analog modular synthesis, in which multiple visual sources (oscillators, cameras, application windows, other connected windows) can be transformed, modulated, and composited via combining sequences of functions. David has been developing software for about twenty years now and as the co-organizer of the CCA meetups, it should come to no surprise to you that he likes his coding creative. So when he finally sat down to play around with Hydra in a workshop at C3 earlier this year, it really got under his skin. Dancehack brings together people from the contemporary dance and music scene with creative technologists to produce a joint spontaneous performance within a limited timespan.
